What you'll do

Working with colours of your choosing, you’ll learn how to mix and pour paint to get amazing effects. You will learn four fluid art techniques and create a unique clock in the process. The fluid art techniques you will learn are the strainer pour, swipe, tree ring and dutch pour. You will be taught the techniques on canvas before choosing which technique you’d like to do on your very own clock.

This workshop is for all skill levels, and you don’t need any prior knowledge. All you need is a willingness to get messy and have some fun!

Please note: Due to the paint technique, the artwork will be ready two weeks after the workshop, so you won’t be able to take them with you on the day. The canvases will be varnished to protect the art and give it some shine, and the clocks will be coated with resin before a silent mechanism is attached. We will arrange delivery (within the Perth metro area only

Meet your instructor

Hi, Iā€™m Vanessa

After being introduced to fluid art in early 2018, a curiosity turned into an obsession and The Early Bird Collective was born. What started as a fun night messing around with paint, turned into my own small business with big dreams.

I am an ‘accidental artist’ because everything I create is based on fluid mediums (including acrylic paint and alcohol inks), and I can’t predict how my artwork will look when completed. Fluid or flow art is at the core of everything that’s created. The creation process is messy (but fun), and the results speak for themselves. Precision is not the aim of the game.

Handmade Pride (formerly The Early Bird Collective) is all about creating something unique that can never be replicated. I am on a journey to share my creation process with others so they too can create something unique and have fun in the process!

Is this the class for me?

If you’re looking for a beginners art class with no experience or prior knowledge needed, then this just might be the one for you. All you need is a willingness to get messy and have some fun.

What people are saying...

“I thoroughly enjoyed the workshop, and was very happy with the results I got. Vanessa was really patient and open to ideas and helped us to get the results we wanted. Playing with fluid art was therapeutic and meditative almost. Would highly recommend this class. I love my clock and canvases.”

“Vanessa was an enthusiastic teacher and I had great fun and learnt how simple but effective the paint techniques were. We had a lovely tapas board and plenty of time to discuss colours and finish the class. Thankyou!”

“The class is good value for money as we learnt 4 different techniques and poured on 4 canvases in addition to making the clock. You receive 5 products – 4 canvases and the clock – once they have dried. I feel confident that I can now do some acrylic pours at home! I highly recommend this class to anyone who wants to learn a fun skill and doesn’t mind getting their hands a but dirty šŸ™‚ “

What to bring

Wear clothes that you don’t mind getting a bit dirty. Acrylic paint is washable but it can sometimes stain.

Have a think about your colours before the class. You will be using two to three colours per pour. If you’re unsure of what works well together then watch this video on colour theory: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YeI6Wqn4I78, or just start having a look at the colours in your house and how they go together.
